Shooting Star Celestial Necklace 24k Gold and Silver
Oxidized sterling silver and 24k gold come together in this beautiful celestial design which is one piece from my newest collection called “Galaxy”! Using the ancient Korean technique of keum-bo, I have fused 24k gold to the surface of sterling silver and then oxidized certain areas for contrast. The contrast of the rich 24k gold color against the bright silver as well as the subtly oxidized portions of the design is lovely. I have used a light grey with hints of chocolate brown as my patina for oxidation. The combination of silver, gold and this lovely shade of grey is gorgeous!
This necklace has had many different techniques and materials come together in its design and creation! It is a dimensional rectangular shape with a curved top, angled sides and a flat back. A bail at the top has a graceful angle to it and several sterling silver ball accents connect it to the pendant. This design somewhat takes on the shape of a handbag, don't you think? It provides the perfect backdrop for the addition of 24K gold. In this pendant I have cut out and then soldered on a variety of sizes of circles as well as angled lines to my dimensional shape. These represent shooting stars, planets, a starry night sky, the galaxy, the solar system...you decide! We could just say it is a polka dot and line geometric pattern as it certainly is that too!
I am drawn to geometric, modern designs as well as those that are somewhat "celestial" and this design combines both! Gold shapes in 24 k gold were applied in the ancient technique known as "Keum-bo". Some areas have had the chocolate brown patina added thereafter while others remain bright silver. The end result is a pendant that is certainly stunning and commands attention!
The pendant as photographed hangs from a lovely multi-cable neck wire. The pendant itself measures 1 1/2" in length top to bottom and 1 7/8" in width. In the sterling silver multi-cable neck wire, 15 strands of sterling silver compliment the bright silver tones in the pendant beautifully. This features a secure interlocking clasp. This is available in either a 16 inch or 18 inch length. It passes through the bail at the top of the pendant. Please choose whether or not you would like the multi-cable neck wire with your purchase, and if so, what length. This neck wire works beautifully with this design and can be easily removed and used with other pendants! You may also choose to use a chain necklace of your own with this pendant for different lengths and looks!
