For Diana Hirschhorn, metal is far more than a material—it is a medium for exploring texture, movement, light, and life. Every piece begins with an idea: a line, a curve, an architectural detail, or the rhythm of repeating forms. From these simple observations emerge sculptural works of wearable art designed to engage the eye, invite touch, and become part of the wearer's everyday life.
At DianaHDesigns, Diana creates contemporary jewelry inspired by architecture, movement, modern design, and the ever-changing interaction of light with form. Bold yet lightweight, each piece is handcrafted to make a statement while remaining comfortable enough to become part of a woman's everyday wardrobe.
Rather than working within a fixed palette of materials, Diana enjoys exploring new combinations of metals—including anodized titanium, sterling silver, mild steel, stainless steel, copper, NuGold bronze, and 24K gold over fine silver—along with gemstones, glass, and enamel. Using engraving, etching, reticulation, original roller-printed patterns, and other hand-finishing techniques, she creates richly textured surfaces that interact with light, invite touch, and reveal new details with every movement.
Components such as rivets and micro screws are incorporated not only as structural elements but as artistic ones, introducing subtle kinetic movement that allows each design to respond naturally to the wearer. Her work is driven by a fascination with revealing the light and life within metal, transforming rigid materials into sculptural forms that seem to come alive as they catch the light and move.
Design has been the common thread throughout Diana's professional life. After earning a degree in Fashion Design from Cornell University, she began her career as a retail buyer, where she developed a deep appreciation for proportion, texture, color, and the way materials move on the body. Years later, a successful career in real estate strengthened her fascination with architectural structure, geometry, and spatial relationships.
Together, these experiences continue to shape her work. Each collection represents a new chapter in an ongoing creative journey. While the materials, techniques, and inspirations continue to evolve, every piece remains true to the contemporary aesthetic and sculptural approach that define DianaHDesigns.
Rather than beginning with a finished design, Diana often starts with an abstract idea—a geometric form, an interesting shadow, an architectural detail, or an unexpected texture. Through experimentation and exploration, each collection gradually develops its own personality before naturally evolving into the next creative direction.
Many of Diana's designs explore movement as an essential design element. Layered components, carefully engineered connections, and kinetic construction interact with light as the wearer moves, giving each piece a sense of life and dimension. Although her jewelry is collected for its artistic quality, Diana believes it should be worn and enjoyed—not reserved for special occasions. Thoughtful engineering, lightweight construction, and meticulous craftsmanship allow each piece to transition effortlessly from everyday life to evening events, becoming a personal expression of style rather than an accessory tucked away in a jewelry box.
Each design is individually created and fabricated in Diana's Frederick, Maryland studio. Produced as one-of-a-kind pieces or in very small collections, her work reflects a commitment to originality, craftsmanship, and contemporary design.
People often ask Diana which piece of jewelry she wears every day. Her answer is always the same: earrings! While she may or may not wear a necklace or bracelet, she rarely leaves home without a favorite pair. She believes earrings have the unique ability to frame the face, express personality, and transform an outfit with very little effort. It's that everyday connection to jewelry that inspires her to create pieces that are as comfortable to wear as they are beautiful—pieces that catch the light, start conversations, and become someone's favorite.
